Lots of things. You can carry on doing science for your whole career like me, or you can use the skills that you pick up to do a really wide range of things. Because science trains you to think about new information, and how to analyse that information it’s really useful for lots of job.

People I know have gone on to be scientists working in universities, teachers, scientists in industry, working for the government, working in the city, patent officers, computer programmers, doing wildlife surveys in rivers, running companies selling health food.. you name it!

Hi smileytia, I hope my career leads to me being able to set up my own research group, currently I work in a big team and I’m heading up a new research area in “Synthetic Biology”, I hope to be able to set up my own team in this area

      Good question 🙂

I am hoping that I will stay working at a university, and continue to do research and help students become vets. When you find out a lot about a particular area of science, you become almost ‘famous’ for you work – so I would like to be well known one day for my research!

The good thing about studying science is that it opens up a lot of doors, you can do all kinds of jobs because employers like this kind of qualification!

I hope to keep going in the academic system, hopefully one day be in charge of my own team!
